We put the boys in public school about 4 years ago after much prayer and fear.
It has proven to be a very good thing and we continue to review this decision yearly.
As the new school year began I was thinking how much I have been blessed with three incredible little boys. All very special and unique in there own ways. From one that is quiet, one that is out going, and one that I think even talks in his sleep! They are the best and worst of their dad, I can see myself in all of them. Which brings me to the topic, I came across this verse the other day and pondered on it for a while.
Psalm 127 (The Message)
3-5 Don't you see that children are God's best gift? the fruit of the womb his generous legacy? Like a warrior's fistful of arrows are the children of a vigorous youth. Oh, how blessed are you parents, with your quivers full of children! Your enemies don't stand a chance against you; you'll sweep them right off your doorstep.
I love this verse, it is such a spiritual picture of what I am to being preparing the boys for.
Arrows are awesome weapons that can be used to attack in offense and in defense.
As much as I want the enemy to quake when I am awake, I want him to be that much more fearful of the three boys that we are raising. I pray that they will be victorious in life in areas that I have failed. It is my responsiblity to make sure they are crafted out of the right material.
Everyday we pull the bow back and shoot our three arrows into this crazy world. We then go an retrieve them to make sure they are still in good condition. Sometimes they are bent and go the wrong way, we then straighten them out. Sometimes they hit an unexpected target and we must sit down with help reconstruct them. I do not fear what they will encounter, I know the material that they are made of. It will withstand anything that they may encounter.
I hear the comment that it is so much more difficult and tougher now days. Have you seen the bow and arrows that are made now days? They are much more sophisicated today - more than they used to be. As the times have changed, so has our understanding on how to make better bows and arrows! I know I am a much better bow today then yesterday.
I also know one day we will pull that bow back one last time as hard as we can. At that point, I hope and pray that the enemy is shaking in terror as he hears them screaming across the sky.
I say, bring it on, we will be ready.

Good analogy!
ReplyDeleteChuck, I like this a lot - it speaks volumes about your confidence in the Lord and His ability to help you make the most precise and well balanced arrows possible. When we draw the bow we have done our parts - the rest is up to the Archer whose aim is perfect. The enemy knows and trembles when he see the arsenal that the Archer has assembled for his ultimate destruction.
